ARECA Resolution 02-21
A resolution Supporting Construction of the Southern Intertie
Reliability of electric power transmission is important to the economic well being of the Railbelt of Alaska that is, in turn, essential to the health of Alaska as a whole. In addition to economic benefits, the Southern Intertie will provide very real reliability enhancements. The Southern Intertie will reduce vulnerability of electric infrastructure to both natural and human caused outages by providing alternative sources of electric power transmission in the event of outages of certain existing facilities.
The participants in the Southern Intertie have been actively pursuing development of this project since the Legislature appropriated partial funding for the Southern Intertie in 1993. The project is currently undergoing environmental review.
ARECA supports the timely construction of the Southern Intertie.
